Artist Joan Fergus specialized in creating complex, highly animated animal dioramas populated by mice, hedgehogs, and snails nestled among woodland fungi. Rather than utilizing industrial cast molding lines, each part of the scene was painstakingly built by hand from raw clay blocks—making every individual kiln firing unique.
